However, its importance during pregnancy was later discovered.<\/p>\n<p>Progesterone during the first weeks of pregnancy is synthesized by the corpus luteum inside the ovary, and after week 7 of gestation, the luteal-placental transition is performed, which the placenta is in charge of synthesizing it during the rest of the pregnancy,<\/p>\n<p><strong> Among its main functions within pregnancy are:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>-Stimulates secretion within the endometrium (uterus) to promote nutrients to gametes.<\/p>\n<p>-Fertilization, embryonic development and implantation.<\/p>\n<p>-It plays an immunoprotective role<\/p>\n<p>-Development and preparation of the breast for future lactation<\/p>\n<p>-Keeps the uterus relaxed and without contractions.<\/p>\n<p>Progesterone as its name indicates PRO-GESTATION to promoting and maintaining pregnancy.<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: right;\">Dra.
